project type: Apartments / Hotel

location: Dandenong, Melbourne, Australia

area: 2,500 sqm.

status: Design Development

About:

The proposed design will be a positive step in the further activation of the primary activity centre at the city of Dandenong.

We are proposing the construction of an 8 storey apartment building with ground-level retail on the site of the existing single level shop at 124-128 Foster Street, adjacent to the recently constructed 8 storey ‘Arkana’ mixed use development.

It provides a series of 1 Bedroom and 2 bedrooms style apartments to provide for an inner-urban demographic that is more in line with the proposed commercial activity centre, and complements the existing suburban demographic in neighbouring suburbs.

Spaces within are designed to be generous to suit the growing affluence of the revitalised Dandenong area, whilst promoting a community spirit and a counterpoint to the hard urban spaces through the rooftop community garden and social spaces.

The proposal responds to the local context of the site and reinforces the hard, active edge along Foster Street through the provision of a fully glazed shop frontage. It adopts the continuous canopy offered to the pedestrian walkway.
